More wood More work

we got another delivery of wood this week. Unfortunatly, I didn't get a call before it arrived. So, I had to rush to move it all out of the dirt and under cover in short order because it was beginning to rain. I moved all 9 of the 27 ft BCI's as well as the 20ft BCIs. Them, carried all 120 2x6 studs under the cover of the new subfloor. Eli got the 2x6x12's when he got home. Good thing cause as it is, my back is aching! On Thursday evening, we got the rest of the BCI's up for the first floor as well as the rim joists. If weather permits, we'll be putting down the liquid nails and the Tounge and Groove plywood subfloor this evening when Eli gets home. Today, I am going to Spenard Builders Supply to buy some more plywood, liquid nails and the headers for the first floor. Those things are going to be massive. Good thing we have absurdly giant leaf springs on the Chevy. Some of them are going to be 4"x12"x 20' !!!! Now, I have to figure out just how many I need....

A Little Help From My Friends

This Memorial Day weekend was a productive one for us. We were happy to be visited by a couple of Eli's friends who were anxious to help us build. On Saturday, we successfully finished 1/2 of the sub floor for the first floor. To finish the rest of it, I'll be ordering some more lumber and BCI's today. On Sunday, Eli and a I made a few improvements, including a ramp so that we (and our critters) had an easy way to get up and down there to do work or just stand and enjoy the view. It's so amazing to have gotten to this point finally.

Later on Sunday, I worked at the laundromat (3-11:30PM) so we put the house on hold other than buying some 4x4 s for bracing.

Then, on Monday, Eli's friends showed up just as we were beginning work again. On this day, we cut the 4x4's and put them in place with some giant screws. The structure is VERY sturdy now. YEAH!

After the work was done for the day, we fired up the BBQ and cooked up some fresh oysters, served up with butter, garlic and lemon. Mmmm

I also made some homemade gourmet chips and some hot dogs and pork chops. Gotta feed the free help! Today, I'll be making some hamburger patties and freezing them to be sure that I have ready to cook food in the freezer anytime someone comes to help. I'll also be placing another order of lumber with SBS!!!

moving right along

After a long day at work, we've been heading right out to do more work. And now, we have most of our BCI's up for the first floor.

First Load

After clearing some roots from around the driveway to allow a delivery truck to come in, we got our first load of building materials yesterday. I can barely type this because my forearms are so sore. But, now that I'd had some coffee and a bagel, I'd better get out there. yesterday, we cut down the 6"x6" beams to 4 ft lengths and sealing the ends to be used as vertical posts.

Waiting again....

We're waiting for the road to dry up so that we can order some building materials and get them delivered. I took a video of my drive on this road and sent it to my borough and state rep. to try to get someone interested in getting the road rebuilt.
